Department: Commerce and Insurance

Mission: The Board is to advise the Commissioner as to the proper administration of the Division of Finance and the banking laws of this state and make recommendations to the general assembly as to changes in these laws.

Function: The Board hears appeals from decisions made by the Commissioner of Finance regarding the chartering of new banks, the approval or disapproval of bank branches and the relocation of banks or branches. The Board also must approve all regulations pertaining to banks and trust companies promulgated by the Commissioner.

Compensation: Board members receive $100 per day and their necessary traveling and other expenses while engaged in the performance of their duties.

Member Requirements: Members must be Missouri residents. One member must be an attorney and a member of the Missouri Bar in good standing. Three members must have at least five years of active bank or association management experience at an institution chartered under chapter 362 or 369 in Missouri. One member shall be an individual who is not involved in the administration of a financial institution.

Political Requirements: Not more than three members may be members of the same political party.
