Mission: The Administrative Hearing Commission provides an impartial tribunal with fair procedures to decide disputes that arise between private citizens and the state agencies or school districts.

Function: The Administrative Hearing Commission is a neutral, independent administrative tribunal that decides more than 100 types of disputes involving private citizens and state agencies or school districts. Each commissioner acts as an administrative judge who hears cases individually; the commissioners do not sit as a body. The Commission’s procedures are similar to those governing civil court cases. Cases often involve motions, discovery, status hearings, and evidentiary hearings to receive evidence from the parties on which to base the decision. The commissioner issues a written decision that any party, including the state agency or school district, may appeal to the appropriate court.
