Mission: The State Committee of Marital and Family Therapists protects the public from unlicensed, negligent, incompetent, and dishonest mental health services provided by licensees and individuals under supervision for licensure. The state committee enforces licensure standards through the implementation of legislative and administrative regulations and provides guidance to supervisors and applicants for licensure to insure compliance with Missouri law and regulations.

Function: Applications are reviewed by the state committee to insure a licensee or individual under supervision for licensure is qualified, through education, supervised experience, and examination, to provide marital and family therapy to Missouri consumers. Complaints and corresponding investigations are reviewed by the committee to insure licensees and individuals under supervision for licensure practice, legally, ethically, and competently.

Term length: 5 years; 1 reappointment allowed (No person shall be eligible for appointment to the committee who has served as a member of the committee for a total of ten years.)

Compensation: Members receive reimbursement for realized and necessary expenses.

Member Requirements: 4 members must be marital and family therapists; 2 must be public members

Political Requirements: yes, not more than 3 members may be members of the same political party
